These days, Valentine’s Day seems to be more about letting the kids know how much I love & adore them (& it kinda helps make up for some of the craziest days we have around this place!)…and less about getting all gussied up & going out! It’s not that my hubby & I have forgotten about each other. It’s more that we’ve finally come to realize that this is more of a “Hallmark Holiday” & that we love each other just as much at home with a nice dinner & a movie as we do trying to squeeze our way into some great restaurant on a weeknight & trying to find a sitter for our 5 children!
In the first years of our marriage, I used to get kinda bummed out that V-Day wasn’t a huge deal for my hubby. And it’s not that he necessarily wanted to ignore the day…he just didn’t like that fact that the world was telling him he “had” to show his love on that day with flowers & chocolate (or whatever). He wanted to know why he couldn’t show it every day? lol… Who was I to stop him? And honestly…I see his love every day. I see him working so hard to care for us. I see his love when he comes home from work only to rush out to soccer practice…and take ALL 5 kids so I can have a break after homeschooling all day. I see his love when he starts the fire early in the morning so it’s nice & cozy when we all get up out of bed. I see his love when he surprises me with a cute lil something from my favorite store (you know…the one I probably wouldn’t shop for myself at)…just because. All the little things that he does day in & day out show me his love more than flowers & chocolate on February 14th ever could. Not that I’d turn away those things on V-Day. Just sayin’ babe…just in case you’re reading this one!!
Love him to the moon & back!
So…back to the kids…I love doing special little things on Valentine’s Day to make their day special. Whether it’s heart pancakes, special cards, little treats or whatever. I suppose I could think of my own little crafts, but in the Pinterest age…I’ll just share a few that I found that I thought were cute!
Here are a few that I might try…in addition to a few cute little things that I’ve already gotten them (shhhh…can’t mention them…the kids like to read my blog sometimes!).
Hope your Valentine’s Day is amazing…whether you spend it in or out! <3

Love your posts!!! Thank you for sharing such wonderful ideas. I too love to surprise my two loves with simple yet thoughtful little things on, well, you’re right, the “hallmark day”. Hehe. Again, thanks for sharing. Your posts are helpful and awesome, just like you are dear Heather.
Sorry, I meant “Hallmark” not “hallmark”
